Landscape Design & Build FAQs for Lehigh Valley Homeowners
Designing a custom outdoor living space is a meaningful investment, and it raises a lot of questions before you feel ready to take the first step. What does the process actually look like? How detailed are the designs? What materials are used, and why? How long does it take? Atlantic RIDGE has been answering these questions for over 25 years for homeowners throughout the Lehigh Valley. The answers below are written to give you a clear, honest picture of how we work.
Fit & Services
-
Atlantic RIDGE is the right fit for homeowners throughout the Lehigh Valley who want a custom outdoor living space, not a generic patio, but a thoughtfully designed environment that reflects how they actually live and entertain outside. The company works best with clients who have a vision for their space, even if it is not fully formed yet, and who value design quality, premium materials, and a process that keeps them informed and involved from start to finish. Projects range from focused curb appeal and planting improvements to full outdoor living builds with patios, kitchens, water features, poolscapes, and structures.
-
Atlantic RIDGE is not the right fit for clients looking for basic lawn maintenance, seasonal mowing, or quick one-day service calls. The company's strength is in custom design and build work, meaning projects that require planning, design development, and skilled construction over a defined project timeline. Clients who need routine grounds maintenance or are looking for the lowest possible price on a simple installation would be better served by a different provider.
-
Atlantic RIDGE offers landscape design, paver patios, walkways and driveways, outdoor kitchens, fire pits and outdoor fireplaces, water features including waterfalls and ponds, curb appeal projects and front entrance design, poolscapes, pergolas and pavilions, custom decks, retaining and seating walls, outdoor lighting, and plantings. Every service is available as part of a full design-build project, and many are also available as standalone enhancements for existing properties.
-
Atlantic RIDGE serves communities throughout the Lehigh Valley from its Wind Gap, PA location, including Palmer Township, Palmer Heights, Bethlehem Township, Forks Township, Lower Saucon Township, Bushkill Township, Upper and Lower Nazareth Township, Williams Township, Allen Township, Moore Township, Plainfield Township, Wilson, Easton, Nazareth, Bethlehem, East Allen Township, and surrounding areas.

Services Overview
-
A full outdoor living project begins with a consultation where the design team, led by Chris Stocker and including landscape architect Greg, visits your property, walks the site, and learns how you want to use your outdoor space. A detailed design plan is then developed and presented at Atlantic RIDGE's design studio, where 2D and 3D visualizations are displayed on an 85" screen alongside actual material samples so every decision is made in full context. Once the design is approved, the build team executes the installation with close project management through each phase. Many full-scope projects incorporate patios, retaining walls, outdoor kitchens, water features, pergolas or pavilions, lighting, and plantings as a unified outdoor environment designed to be lived in, not just looked at.
-
As an authorized Techo-Bloc partner, Atlantic RIDGE has access to Techo-Bloc's full product line, consisting of architectural concrete pavers and wall systems engineered specifically for northern climate performance and designed with considerably more aesthetic depth than commodity paving materials. Every patio, walkway, and driveway Atlantic RIDGE installs is built on a properly prepared base designed for Pennsylvania's freeze-thaw cycling, ensuring that the surface performs structurally for decades rather than just looking good at installation. Material selection is made through the design process based on your home's architecture, your aesthetic goals, and how the patio will be used.
-
A poolscape is the complete designed environment around the pool, encompassing patio surfaces, coping, retaining elements, plantings, lighting, and any additional features like fire elements or shade structures. Atlantic RIDGE's approach treats the pool and its surrounding landscape as a single cohesive design problem rather than a pool installation with landscape added around it afterward. The company collaborates with carefully selected pool suppliers and specializes in plunge pools and compact poolscapes for homeowners who want a sophisticated water environment without a large-format traditional pool installation.
Process
-
After the initial call, the team schedules a consultation at your property. Chris and the design team walk the site, discuss your goals, assess existing conditions, and gather the information needed to begin design development. The design phase produces a detailed 2D or 3D plan, which is presented at Atlantic RIDGE's design studio in an immersive session where you review the plan against actual material samples and can request adjustments before approving. Once the design is finalized, construction scheduling begins.
-
Clients at Atlantic RIDGE are directly involved throughout the design phase. The design studio presentation is a collaborative session, not a take-it-or-leave-it reveal, where your input shapes the final plan. Reviewers at Atlantic RIDGE consistently note that Chris and Greg listen carefully to what clients actually want and incorporate that feedback directly into revisions. The goal is a design you approve with full confidence before any construction begins.
-
Atlantic RIDGE performs installations with its own experienced team. The company's 25+ years in business and 100+ years of combined team experience reflect a depth of in-house skill that is evident in the portfolio. Working with a consistent, skilled crew rather than rotating subcontractors is a meaningful part of how Atlantic RIDGE delivers projects on schedule and to the quality standard reflected in its reviews.
Communication & Accountability
-
Chris Stocker serves as the primary point of contact and project lead for Atlantic RIDGE clients. Reviewers consistently single out Chris's availability, responsiveness, and willingness to engage with every question throughout the project as defining qualities of the experience. Landscape architect Greg leads the design phase and is involved in scope-specific design conversations. The goal is that clients always know who to call and always get a direct answer.
-
Changes that arise during construction are addressed directly with Chris. Any adjustments that affect scope, materials, or timeline are communicated clearly before being implemented so clients remain in control of the project. The design and planning process is structured to work through most decisions before construction begins, which reduces the frequency of mid-project changes, but when adjustments are needed they are handled transparently and documented.
-
Atlantic RIDGE establishes a realistic project schedule before construction begins and communicates progress and upcoming milestones throughout the build. Clients should expect to know what phase the project is in, what comes next, and when completion is expected, rather than having to ask.
Construction & Performance
-
Pennsylvania's freeze-thaw cycles, heavy spring rain, and occasional severe weather create real demands on hardscape and outdoor structures. Every paver installation at Atlantic RIDGE is built on a correctly sized, compacted aggregate base engineered for freeze-thaw performance, which is the single most important factor in long-term hardscape durability. Techo-Bloc products are specifically engineered for northern climate conditions. Pergolas and pavilions are designed and framed to meet Pennsylvania's structural load requirements. Retaining walls are sized and built to manage real soil loads and drainage. These are foundational requirements the team applies on every project.
-
Atlantic RIDGE offers a Worry-Free Warranty on completed installations. Full warranty terms and what is covered are available at atlanticridge.com/worry-free-warranty.
-
Lower-maintenance outdoor spaces are achievable through deliberate material and design choices. Composite decking requires far less care than natural wood. NatureKast outdoor cabinetry is 100% weatherproof and needs no seasonal treatment. Techo-Bloc pavers are fade-resistant and require minimal maintenance beyond periodic cleaning. Planting selections made with slow-growing, climate-adapted species and appropriate mulching and edging systems reduce ongoing bed care. The design consultation is where these priorities are identified and built into the project plan.
Pricing & Getting Started
-
Pricing is driven by project scope, material selections, and site-specific conditions. Scope covers what is being designed and built, as a paver patio and fire pit carries a different cost profile than a full outdoor living build with kitchen, pavilion, poolscape, and lighting. Material selections carry meaningfully different price points, with Techo-Bloc concrete pavers versus natural stone and NatureKast cabinetry versus standard alternatives being notable examples. Site conditions including significant grade changes, drainage work, or difficult access add to the overall cost. An accurate proposal requires an on-site consultation, as projects cannot be priced responsibly from a phone description alone.
-
The most useful preparation is a sense of how you want to use your outdoor space, including how you entertain, what activities the space should support, what you like and dislike about your yard now, and a rough budget range. Photos or inspiration images are helpful but not required. The design team is skilled at drawing out a clear picture of your goals through the consultation conversation, so having all the answers upfront is not necessary. The more honest you are about priorities and budget, the faster the design process moves toward something you'll love.

We have enjoyed having Atlantic Ridge complete two patio projects for us.
The latest project included putting in a large landscape area and in-ground pool. We have found their quality of work is very good, and their design concepts excellent. As part of our pool area, they designed a very nice water fall flowing into our pool. We are very pleased with their work.”
